Many couples seem to be waiting to tie the knot with the average age of a bride in Australia is 28 and the average age of the groom is 30 years old.
It’s interesting to see how many wedding take place in Australia and where the wedding are distributed. Most wedding in Australia are held in Sydney and New South Wales, 38,000 or 32% of weddings over the 8 states and territories. The second largest state for weddings is Victoria and Melbourne coming in at approximately 28,000 or 24%. This is not surprising as these are the 2 most populated states in Australia. Brisbane and Queensland come in close with 26,500 or 22% of weddings each year. Next is Perth and Western Australia the largest state in the country with 12,000 or 10% of wedding each year. Adelaide and South Australia come in 5th place with 7,500 or 6.5% of Australia’s annual weddings. The island state Tasmania and its capital Hobart hold only 2,750 2.5% of weddings. Canberra holds 1,600 wedding per year and lastly the Northern Territory and Darwin only 700 weddings per year.
Who is performing all these wedding ceremonies? Currently the majority of Australian weddings are performed by a civil marriage celebrant. Celebrants perform around 65% or about 78,000 weddings each year. Religious ceremonies performed by a priest or minister account of the remaining 35% or 42,000 wedding per year.
You may also wonder how much does the average wedding cost. The average cost of a wedding in Australia is a whopping $25,000 dollars. That means Australians spend approximately $300,000,000 on weddings each year!
Then there is the question how long does it take to plan a wedding? In Australia brides, their friends and families spend over 200 hours planning the wedding day. That’s a total of 24,000,000 hours spent planning weddings in Australia every year. With modern technology these days more that 60% of brides use the internet to help them plan their wedding.
